According to preliminary stats compiled from the Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA) Powder River Basin (PRB) coal production for Q4 2017 was 84 million tons or 335 million on an annualized basis. As a comparison, Q3 2017 production was 91 million tons or 365 million annualized. In our Q3 2017 PRB update we assumed Q4 2017 number would likely be equal to Q3. If so, the PRB would have produced around 342 million tons. No doubt the relatively warm November and December impacted these numbers.
