The long-term temperature goal adopted under the Paris Agreement of holding temperature increase to “well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels” requires a rapid decarbonisation of the global power sector and the phase-out of the last unabated coal-fired coal plant in the EU by around 2030.
